Agroecological Architecture Office

About us

We live and work together on a small self-catering farm in southern Styria.
Here we research and experiment and try to combine "culture and nature". Nature is the most efficient system, it thrives on diversity and is our greatest teacher.

It is very important to us that our concepts and designs are not only based on theoretical knowledge, but are also realisable and practicable.
Our different personal backgrounds and pasts, our knowledge and our experiences are not only an enrichment for us, but also for our projects.

Heidelinde Holzer

Heidelinde Holzer

My wife grew up as the daughter of a mountain farmer on the Krameterhof farm in Salzburg's Lungau region. The experience of living on one of the first "permaculture" farms in the Alps had a lasting impact on her.

She actively supported the "Holzer Permaculture" farms of her father Sepp Holzer and her brother Josef A. Holzer for many years. She was not only responsible for the team of trainees, the cultivation of food for self-sufficiency and the running of the seminars, but also as a seminar lecturer and co-ordinator.

Heidi is an agroecological landscape gardener. She graduated from the Langenlois School of Horticulture in Lower Austria, where she specialised in plant propagation in the tree nursery branch.

Jens Kalkhof

Jens Kalkhof

Jens is an architect and has decades of experience in the planning and implementation of decentralised water retention strategies.

He began his architectural studies at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, completed his bachelor's degree at the University of North London and his diploma at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London.

In 2008, my husband founded the architecture firm Permatecture. The name Perma- is derived from "permaculture" and is intended to symbolise the connection between nature and culture in planning and design in an ecologically sustainable and integrative way.

In co-operation with the "Holzer Permaculture" team, he has created plans and concepts for numerous international permaculture projects for more than ten years. He was responsible for agroecological planning and concepts as a lecturer at seminars and workshops.

We look forward to getting in touch with you
